Godiva Awakes

August 6, 2012

Congratulations to all involved in the awakening and journey of Imagineer Productions’ 21st Century Godiva. After a spectacular performance where she was awoken in her home town of Coventry, Godiva has journeyed all the way to London powered by a team of 100 cyclists riding Pashley tricycles, led by British Cycling Champion Mick Ives.

Godiva Awakes is one of a series of 12 public art commissions across the UK created to celebrate the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, funded by Arts Council England. Running on sustainable energy through cycle power it has put the West Midlands on the map, capturing the imagination of the country and the world, with the skill and ingenuity of the region.

Passing through Rugby, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Luton, Hatfield, and Waltham Abbey, it has been an epic challenge for all the cyclists and those involved; very much in tune with the Olympic spirit of courage and determination.

Lucy’s Treasure Hunt!

July 23, 2012

This is a lovely video created by Sustrans, featuring the Pashley Princess.

They are excited to announce that finding a safe route to ride your bike is set to be easier than ever as cycling routes are made available on UK Google Maps for the first time.

In a ground-breaking move for cyclists and would-be cyclists, National Cycle Network routes across the UK can now be navigated online using a new bicycle symbol on Google Maps, alongside the options of driving, public transport and walking.

Cyclists can now plan their trips, make use of bike lanes, calculate cycle-friendly routes that avoid big hills and customise the map for cycling on smart phones and computers.

What a ride!

June 15, 2012

All at Pashley would like to say a huge “congratulations” to the Angel Riders for completing their mammoth 8 day, 844 mile (1,351km) cycle ride from Barcelona to Morzine. They climbed a total of 20,146 meters (the equivalent to riding to the top of Mt Everest, two and a quarter times) over the Pyrenees, across southern France and in to the high Alps;  the Galibier mountain pass even had 5 meter snow banks on the side of the road and had only just opened when the chaps reached it!

They arrived in Morzine to a warm welcome from locals, friends and family having raised around £30,000. It was an emotional finish with Malcolm, Nick, Iain and Ian all feeling the triumph of having cycled over some of the most famous mountain passes in Europe, and knowing that all the money and support they had raised was going to a very important charity.

If you would like to show your support and donate to the Angel Ride, raising money for the Lavender Trust, you still can through the following link…www.justgiving.com/angelride2012

More photos from this ride can be viewed on the My Pashley page here.

Well done chaps!

We would like to say a big “thank you” to everyone who joined us on the Diamond Jubilee Picnic Ride. We had a such brilliant time, despite the slightly soggy weather(!) and we were so pleased to see such great outfits and beautifully decorated bicycles. We were even lucky enough to be graced by “HRH” who joined us for tea and cakes after arriving by flotilla!

A  big  “thank you” also to the Traditional Cycle shop for helping to organise such a great day.

We have uploaded some pictures of the day on the My Pashley Page here. If you have any of your own pictures we would love to see them!

The Angel Ride 2012

May 11, 2012

In June 2010, four riders cycled for 8 days on 3 speed Guv’nors from London, across northern France and onto Morzine in the French Alps, a journey of 800 miles. In doing so they raised £50,000 for the Lavender Trust, a charity set up for the support of women affected by breast cancer.

This unique fundraising event was hugely successful and the Lavender Trust and Breast Cancer Care were thrilled with both the amount raised and the exposure that it brought to such an important charity. For this reason the four riders have decided to take on this physical challenge again, only this time they will cycle an even harder route.

On Saturday 26th May 2012, these intrepid riders will set off from Barcelona in Spain and pedal their bicycles 800 miles over the Pyrenees, traversing southern France to the Alpine town of Morzine Avoriaz. They will be riding unsupported on Pashley 3 speed Clubmans, dressed in replica vintage cycling clothing, carrying only a small saddle bag with one change of clothes, spare parts for the bike and maps. Reminiscent of a scene from an old Tour De France they will cycle along roads and pass over many mountains made famous by the world’s toughest cycle race.

If you wish to show your support for the Angel Ride, any donations would be very gratefully received. Please visit www.justgiving.com/angelride2012 for further information.

Summer of Cycling

May 3, 2012

‘The Summer of Cycling is a national campaign running between March and October 2012 which aims to encourage more people to cycle. The All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group and The Bicycle Association, alongside the force of 23 cycling organisations are aiming to double cycling this summer.

It’s about encouraging everyone with an interest in cycling to share the fun and introduce just one friend, neighbour, colleague or family member to cycling.

The Summer of Cycling brings together a whole host of organisations from charities, NGOs, industry manufacturers and retailers, as well as major UK cycling event organisers. It is very much a collaborative effort, with racing organisations being able to promote the Summer of Cycling just as easily as local cycle campaign groups or cyclists like yourself.’

Visit www.summerofcycling.net for more information on how to get involved!
