What is E-Coating?

With its new range of premium, handcrafted Road, Gravel and adventure bicycles, Pashley's renowned quality has been brought up to an even higher level than before.

To offer the highest level of protection to the new Reynolds steel frames, Pashley have elected to utilise a robust and lightweight frame finish known as "E-Coating" - this finish is applied to the frame after fabrication and prior to paint.

E-Coating is short for "Electrophoretic Painting" and was developed by the automotive industry to to protect metal body panels from rust and corrosion. E-Coat is a black finish with a uniform thickness of around 15 microns, this thin coating gives an excellent level of corrosion resistance to a bicycle frame, both on the inside of the tubes and the outside.

E-Coating takes a bare metal frame and submerges it in a bath of coating material whilst an electrical current is applied, with the entire frame submerged the coating can flow into the tubing to protect the metal from the inside. The frame is then removed once the desired thickness is reached and then baked in an oven to harden the coating.

Pashley use the E-coating process to ensure that our premium handcrafted bicycles, have a premium level of protection, so they can be enjoyed for many years to come.
