The Britannia-E invites you to ride with ease and quiet confidence — to drift through winding lanes, explore hidden villages, or breeze through town on everyday errands with unhurried grace. Its electric assistance gives each pedal stroke a touch of effortless power, making every journey feel lighter, smoother, and infinitely more enjoyable.

At its heart lies the Mahle X30S system — a whisper-quiet, beautifully balanced motor that responds instantly to your rhythm. Its power delivery feels natural and unobtrusive, helping you glide up hills and along open roads with equal serenity. The removable battery is cleverly concealed within a hand-stitched leather carry case, preserving the Britannia-E’s elegant silhouette while allowing for easy charging when the day is done.

Designed for life in all weathers, the Britannia-E keeps you composed and comfortable whatever the forecast. Its precisely fitted chainguard and deep-profile mudguards shield you from splashes and road dust, while the powerful hydraulic disc brakes deliver assured stopping in any conditions — dry or wet, uphill or down.

The elegantly curved frame, echoing one of Pashley’s earliest silhouettes, has been refined for today — handcrafted from Reynolds premium steel with 3D printed lugs, it's lighter in weight yet just as comfortable as the original. Paired with gently swept handlebars and smooth-rolling 700c wheels, it encourages a naturally upright posture that feels as good as it looks, letting you glide through the landscape with poise and perfect balance.

Driving this effortless ride is a beautifully simple wide-ratio, three-speed crankset that keeps your gears protected and your chainline clean. This ultra-low-maintenance system ensures years of dependable performance, leaving you free to enjoy the journey rather than worry about the mechanics.

For comfort, the hand-crafted Brooks B67S saddle, made just a short ride from our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop, gradually shapes to you over time — creating a seat as personal as the journeys you take.

For riders who prefer a non-leather finish, a vegan option is available, replacing traditional leather components with beautifully made, high-quality alternatives that align with your values.

Every trace of modern technology has been carefully woven into the Britannia-E’s classic form. Only you will feel the quiet strength beneath you — the seamless assistance that responds to your every move, extending your freedom with grace. Subtle, integrated yet traditional lighting completes the design, illuminating your path with understated elegance as dusk falls.

Hand-built by our artisans in England, the Britannia-E embodies nearly a century of bicycle-making heritage. It is a modern classic in every sense: beautiful, dependable, and made to bring joy to each ride — from morning commutes to weekend escapes, and all the unhurried adventures in between.

Frame SizeInside Leg Length
Small27-31"
Medium29-33.5"
Large31-36"

The Britannia-E comes in the three frame sizes shown in the table, followed by their corresponding inside leg length range.

The frame size is the distance between the centrepoint of the cycle's bottom bracket (where the pedal arms extend from) and the top of the frame's seat tube (where the seatpost enters the frame).

Leg length should be measured from the sole of your foot to the inner top of your thigh (in inches) - please note that this is a different measurement to your trouser inside leg length. If your inside leg length falls in-between two frame sizes and you are unsure which size is best for you, please visit our Sizing Page for further guidance.

Each Pashley bicycle is hand-built to order by our small team of craftsmen in Stratford-upon-Avon. From brazing the frame to the final polish, every detail is completed with care and precision. This dedication takes time — typically 12–14 weeks from the date of order — but ensures that every bicycle leaving our workshop is made to the highest standard.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

How does the electric assistance work?

Both the Britannia-E and Briton-E feature the Mahle X30S system, a lightweight and whisper-quiet motor that provides smooth, natural support as you pedal. The assistance responds seamlessly to your effort, making hills and headwinds feel easier without ever taking over the ride.

Where is the battery located, and how do I charge it?

The battery is cleverly integrated into rear carrier and subtly disguised in a hand stitched leather carry case to preserve the bicycles’ elegant, traditional lines. It can be easily removed for charging indoors using a standard plug socket, or topped up while fitted to the bike if preferred.

How far can I ride on a single charge?

Range varies depending on terrain, rider weight, and level of assistance, but you can typically expect up to 30 miles of riding on a full charge. The system allows you to choose how much power support you’d like, helping you to tailor the range to your journey.

Will an e-bike be difficult to maintain?

Not at all. Both models have been designed for ease of ownership. The three-speed crankset keeps the chainline clean and the gears protected, while the hydraulic disc brakes and sealed hub components require minimal upkeep. As with all Pashley bicycles, regular checks and gentle care will keep your bike performing beautifully for years.

Are the Britannia-E and Briton-E still handmade in England?

Absolutely. Every Britannia-E and Briton-E is hand-built in our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop, continuing a tradition of British craftsmanship that began in 1926. Each frame is brazed, painted, and assembled by skilled makers, ensuring that your bicycle is not only technically refined but also uniquely personal.

How much does the Britannia-E weigh?

Being built from lightweight Reynolds steel tubing, the Britannia-E is lighter than the original Britannia, weighing just 20kg for the complete bicycle.

Were the Briton-E and Britannia-E converted from the original models?

No — both the Briton-E and Britannia-E were designed entirely from the ground up. While they honour the beloved look and spirit of their classic counterparts, every element has been carefully re-engineered to integrate modern electric technology.

The frames, wheels, and around 90% of the componentry are new, purpose-built to accommodate the Mahle X30S electric drive system while maintaining Pashley’s signature balance and comfort.

Because of these fundamental design changes, traditional Britannia and Briton bicycles cannot be converted to electric assist safely or effectively. The new models achieve their effortless performance through engineering that’s been thoughtfully developed from the start — blending heritage design with contemporary innovation in perfect harmony.
