Briton-E
The Briton-E carries the same class and spirited character as the original, now with the effortless ease of electric assistance. Its quiet power, upright comfort, lighter frame, and timeless styling make every ride a smooth and joyful experience, whether through town or into the countryside.
A modern expression of British cycling heritage, the Briton-E brings quiet power and contemporary refinement to one of our most loved models. Drawing inspiration from the character and charm of the original Briton, it introduces the ease of electric assistance and a lighter, more responsive design — perfect for everything from weekday commutes to unhurried weekend rides.
With the Mahle X30S electric drive system, the Briton-E offers a whisper-smooth boost or continuous assistance that feels entirely natural, responding intuitively to your pedalling. The removable battery is cleverly concealed beneath a hand-stitched leather cover and securely fitted to the rear rack, preserving the clean, traditional lines that define Pashley’s iconic design. The result is a bicycle that looks every inch the classic Briton, yet rides with the effortless confidence of modern electric power.
Handcrafted from premium Reynolds steel and 3D printed elements, the Briton-E is just as comfortable and durable as the original Briton whilst benefitting from a redesigned lighter and more responsive frame as well as other contemporary specification enhancements.
Practicality has been reimagined in every detail. The full chainguard and elegantly shaped mudguards keep you pristine in all weathers, while powerful hydraulic disc brakes give you complete control, whatever the conditions. The ultra-low-maintenance, wide-ratio, three-speed crankset keeps your chainline clean and your gearing protected, making daily rides simpler and smoother than ever.
The Briton-E rolls with poise on its 700c wheels and classic cream Schwalbe tyres with added puncture protection, blending the comfort of a relaxed geometry with the agility of a lighter frame. Supple leather grips and a hand-made Brooks aged leather saddle, produced just thirty miles from our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop, add a final note of refinement. Over time, the saddle moulds perfectly to your form — a living reminder of every mile shared.
For riders who prefer a non-leather finish, a vegan option is available, replacing traditional leather components with beautifully made, high-quality alternatives that align with your values.
Subtle and traditional integrated lighting ensures you’re clearly seen from dusk till dawn, and a sturdy kick-down propstand keeps your Briton-E upright and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
The Briton-E carries the same spirit of craftsmanship that has defined Pashley since 1926 — crafted by hand in England with a balance of tradition and innovation. It’s a bicycle of real character: elegant yet robust, quietly powerful yet unmistakably refined. Built to be your faithful weekday companion or the steed for a Sunday escape, the Briton-E makes every ride a pleasure from the first effortless turn of the pedals.
| Frame Size | Inside Leg Length |
| Small | 29-33" |
| Medium | 31-35.5" |
| Large | 33-38" |
The Briton-E comes in the three frame sizes shown in the table, followed by their corresponding inside leg length range.
The frame size is the distance between the centrepoint of the cycle's bottom bracket (where the pedal arms extend from) and the top of the frame's seat tube (where the seatpost enters the frame).
Leg length should be measured from the sole of your foot to the inner top of your thigh (in inches) - please note that this is a different measurement to your trouser inside leg length. If your inside leg length falls in-between two frame sizes and you are unsure which size is best for you, please visit our Sizing Page for further guidance.
Each Pashley bicycle is hand-built to order by our small team of craftsmen in Stratford-upon-Avon. From brazing the frame to the final polish, every detail is completed with care and precision. This dedication takes time — typically 12–14 weeks from the date of order — but ensures that every bicycle leaving our workshop is made to the highest standard.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
How does the electric assistance work?
Both the Britannia-E and Briton-E feature the Mahle X30S system, a lightweight and whisper-quiet motor that provides smooth, natural support as you pedal. The assistance responds seamlessly to your effort, making hills and headwinds feel easier without ever taking over the ride.
Where is the battery located, and how do I charge it?
The battery is cleverly integrated into rear carrier and subtly disguised in a hand stitched leather carry case to preserve the bicycles’ elegant, traditional lines. It can be easily removed for charging indoors using a standard plug socket, or topped up while fitted to the bike if preferred.
How far can I ride on a single charge?
Range varies depending on terrain, rider weight, and level of assistance, but you can typically expect up to 30 miles of riding on a full charge. The system allows you to choose how much power support you’d like, helping you to tailor the range to your journey.
Is an E-Bike difficult to maintain?
Not at all. Both models have been designed for ease of ownership. The three-speed crankset keeps the chainline clean and the gears protected, while the hydraulic disc brakes and sealed hub components require minimal upkeep. As with all Pashley bicycles, regular checks and gentle care will keep your bike performing beautifully for years.
Are the Britannia-E and Briton-E still handmade in England?
Absolutely. Every Britannia-E and Briton-E is hand-built in our Stratford-upon-Avon workshop, continuing a tradition of British craftsmanship that began in 1926. Each frame is brazed, painted, and assembled by skilled makers, ensuring that your bicycle is not only technically refined but also uniquely personal.
How much does the Briton-E weigh?
Being built from lightweight Reynolds steel tubing, the Briton-E is lighter than the original Briton, weighing just 19kg for the complete bicycle.
Were the Briton-E and Britannia-E converted from the original models?
No — both the Briton-E and Britannia-E were designed entirely from the ground up. While they honour the beloved look and spirit of their classic counterparts, every element has been carefully re-engineered to integrate modern electric technology.
The frames, wheels, and around 90% of the componentry are new, purpose-built to accommodate the Mahle X30S electric drive system while maintaining Pashley’s signature balance and comfort.
Because of these fundamental design changes, traditional Britannia and Briton bicycles cannot be converted to electric assist safely or effectively. The new models achieve their effortless performance through engineering that’s been thoughtfully developed from the start — blending heritage design with contemporary innovation in perfect harmony.
